Tuesday 19 Sept- English 9H

Friday #3 is posted in Classroom. Sorry for not having that up on Monday.

In today’s reading (page 32), we finally meet the mysterious Miss Havisham. She is a famous character in literature and is often referenced in other works.

  • What are some things we notice about her right away?

  • What did you notice about how Estella treats Pip.

  • What did you notice about the setting of this chapter?

Dickens uses symbols, person, place, or object that stands for something beyond itself, to show us more about Miss Havisham and Satis House. There is a writing assignment in Classroom about symbols. Use text evidence from this section to complete the assignment.

Tuesday 19 Sept- Academic Seminar

Today we are working on editing FW#1. First, take a look at the rubric points for a 2 and a 3.

2- Presentation of ideas lacks structure, affecting the reader’s understanding. May include an inadequate introduction that offers a weak thesis. Body paragraphs tend towards listing, with little support. Conclusion does not restate main points.

3- Presentation of ideas is mostly structured, including an adequate introduction that offers a thesis, body paragraphs, occasional transitions, mostly coherent/consistent flow throughout, and ends with a conclusion.

In general, the papers scoring below a 3 needed more detail and explanation.
