Today we will be getting into our first longer work. It’s titled Great Expectations and the reading schedule is in Classroom. Take a few minutes and write down these reading dates in your planner.

Tomorrow we will talk about the time period of this book and the society of the time.

Today, use the rest of the hour to work on Friday #2 or start reading GE.

Pre-writing- Review the T-chart to decide which side you will argue for.

Go over outline for the paper.

Mention documentation

Friday #2 is posted in Classroom. Let’s get a start on that.

Columnist project- It’s in Classroom. Read over the document. I’ll wait…. Now ask questions.

Share out the passages you selected to write about yesterday. Why did you choose that passage? What is significant about it?

For tomorrow- Bring a paper copy of your college essay.  We will be working on gathering peer feedback on these important pieces of writing.

Another look at “The Man to Send Rain Clouds.” Each table will have a particular question to answer. Go visual. Make your answer easily understandable on the blank paper.

7. Theme- What’s it all mean?

8. Shift- Why does the story shift POV?

Set up Writer’s Notebook. For tomorrow, select and write about one short (2 sentence) passage from this story. This goes in the Writer’s Craft section and you should focus on how the author gets her point across t the reader.

Memoir- finish presentations and reflect.

1. How is a memoir (non-fiction) similar to the “art” of fiction?

2. How is a memoir (non-fiction) different from the “art” of fiction?

3. What role does “craft” play in each?

4. What is the role of characterization?

Choice articles and writer’s notebook- Set up notebook in 3 sections. Details in Classroom.

Write about your chosen article. Find 2 passages that you want to reflect on for content. Find one additional passage that you want to copy down and reflect on the author’s craft of writing.
